All aspects of the treatment of liquid Al-Si foundry alloys are featured.
These include refinement and modification, filtration, gassing, degassing,
fluxing and grain refinement. Nondestructive control of the microstructure
achieved by the various metal treatment processes is discussed, including
thermal analysis control of grain size and eutetic modification. Also
discussed is electrical resistivity control of modification and resistivity
measurement of dendrite arm spacing. This book is a collaborative effort
based on two decades of research into aluminum solidification and casting,
combined with worldwide experience troubleshooting aluminum modifier applications.
