An Evaluation of Laboratory Test Results for the U.S. Gypsum Sight and Sound Screen System

1997, 22 pages
$44.00

The highway innovative Technology Evaluation Center (HITEC) serves as a clearinghouse for implementing highway innovation by providing nationally focused, collaborative evaluations of new products and technologies. This report, An Evaluation of Laboratory Test Results for the U.S. Gypsum Sight and Sound Screen System, was prepared as part of the HITEC evaluation for this product. The Sight and Sound Screen (to be sold by U.S. Gypsum under the name ULTRASCREENTM) is a post-and-panel wall system designed to act as a sight and sound barrier for highways and as a privacy system for residential and commercial property owners. The HITEC expert panel named eleven performance issues in their evaluation of the USG Sight and Sound Screen. This report details the test procedures and analysis used to address these issues, and provides the results of that prescribed testing and analysis. When the panel compared these results to the Guidelines for Evaluating the Performance of Highway Sound Barriers (#40199), a previous HITEC report based on a review of state and AASHTO specification, the panel concluded that the USG Sight and Sound Screen has met or exceeded all of the applicable evaluation criteria in the Guidelines report. Potential users should review the findings presented here for suitability to their local conditions and standards.
