This proceedings, Ports '98, is a collection of the technical papers presented at the Ports '98 conference held in March 1998 in Long Beach, California. Initiated in 1977, this conference is the eighth in a series and was co-sponsored by the Waterway, Port, Coastal and Ocean Engineering Division of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the U.S. Section of the Permanent International Association of Navigation Congresses (PIANC).
