This proceedings, Pipelines in the Constructed Environment, consists of papers presented at the 1998 Pipeline Division Conference, held in conjunction with the Prestressed Concrete Cylinder Pipe (PCCP) Users Forum, which was held in San Diego, California, August 23-27, 1998. The fact that new pipeline construction, the maintenance of existing pipeline, or the rehabilitation of a deteriorating pipeline often takes place where there is development over or adjacent to it or can place a variety of constraints on a project. These papers explore new construction technology, such as horizontal directional drilling, that allows this construction or rehabilitation to take place with minimal inconvenience to the public. In addition, various papers on existing technology, such as CAD systems, explain how they can be used to help engineers construct new facilities with longer service life. |
