Materials and Construction: Exploring the Connection

1999, 928 pages
$138.80

In an era of rapid developments in engineered, hybrid and synthetic materials in the construction industry, finding the best material for a project is a challenge. To improve communication and understanding between producers and users of construction materials, the Fifth ASCE Materials Engineering Congress (MatCong5) held in Cincinnati, Ohio, May 10-12, 1999, created a forum for these two groups to meet and exchange ideas. The papers from this conference cover topics at the forefront of civil engineering materials research and civil engineering construction. Papers are divided into three subject areas: Buildings, Bridges & Tunnels, and Pavements. A significant number relate to using materials to repair, rehabilitate, and retrofit these elements of our civil infrastructure. Research and development in different material types, such as bituminous, cementitious, composite, metallic, timber and recycled materials are also covered as they relate to particular applications allowing the reader to compare different materials in the context of a specific application.
