Jointly developed by ASTM International and SAE International
Includes 5,000 UNS numbers, 7,300 trade names and alloy designations,
and 13,300 specification cross-references
What is UNS?
Jointly developed by ASTM and SAE, this new edition provides an overall
designation system for thousands of metals and alloys in commercial
use. The Unified Numbering System for Metals and Alloys (UNS) provides
a means of correlating many internationally used metal and alloy numbering
systems currently administered by societies, trade associations, and
those individual users and producers of metals and alloys. To achieve
the necessary uniformity for efficient indexing, record keeping, data
storage and retrieval, and cross-referencing, this book is a MUST. The
applicable specifications referenced include those from AA, ACI, AISI,
AMS, ASME, ASTM, AWS, Federal, MIL, NACE, and SAE.
New to this edition!
300 new UNS numbers
5,400 updates to specification cross references, trade names,
and alloy designations
The UNS establishes 18 series of designations (appearing below in
parentheses) for metals and alloys:
(A) Aluminum and Aluminum Alloys
(C) Copper and Copper Alloys
(D) Specified Mechanical Properties Steels
(E) Rare Earths and Similar Metals and Alloys
(F) Cast Irons
(G) AISI and SAE Carbon and Alloy steels
(H) AISI and SAE H-Steels
(J) Cast Steels
(K) Miscellaneous Steels and Ferrous Alloys
(L) Low Melting Metals and Alloys
(M) Miscellaneous Nonferrous Metals and Alloys
(N) Nickel and Nickel Alloys
(P) Precious Metals and Alloys
(R) Reactive and Refractory Metals and Alloys
(S) Heat and Corrosion Resistant Steels (including Stainless),
Valve Steels, and Iron-Base Superalloys
(T) Tool Steels, Wrought and Cast
(W)Welding Filler Metals
(Z) Zinc and Zinc Alloys
