This manual explains the design and use of computer modeling of water
distribution systems. Municipal water distribution systems are very
large and complex hydraulic networks of pipes, pumps, valves, and storage
reservoirs. In order to understand what is happening in the distribution
system, the operator can build an accurate and detailed "virtual"
model of the system using computer software. Computer models can help
the operator uncover problems and try different scenarios to solve the
problems, without actually entering or changing the physical distribution
system. M32 takes the operator from an introduction to modeling, through data collection, model design, calibration, and the many uses for distribution system computer models. Results of a distribution modeling survey of US and Canadian water utilities are included, that shows uses and future trends of water distribution and water quality modeling. |
