NFPA
111(05) Minimize safety hazards resulting from power loss. This Standard presents performance requirements for Level 1 and Level 2 stored electric energy systems providing an alternate source of electrical power in buildings and facilities in the event that the normal electrical power source fails. NFPA 111 also provides guidance for inspectors, designers, installers, manufacturers, and users of a stored emergency power supply system (SEPSS) and to serve as a basis for communication between the parties involved. Systems covered include power sources, transfer equipment, controls, supervisory equipment, and accessory equipment needed to supply electrical power to selected circuits. In the 2005 edition the definitions for batteries have been revised and updated and include both Vented as well as Valve-Regulated (VRLA). The definition of Emergency Power Supply System was revised to further enhance usability of the document for adoption purposes.
